A weekly two minute catch-up for members from the
TMF Director's desk
These are some of the things that have caught my attention this week.
I've been taking a couple of non-digital, no-screen days this week, so this bulletin is a wee bit shorter than usual. Thanks to the wonders of scheduling it can still reach you as usual, even though I am spending some much-needed time in the analogue world: LPs, radio, long walks, books made of paper, not pixels.
Breabach will be thoroughly steeped in the digital world as they embark on a virtual tour of the UK in December. The way it works is that each venue will feature the stream on a particular night of the week and ticket buyers will be sent an individually coded ticket to access the stream which they can view either on their TV, PC or mobile device. Importantly the stream will not be available on YouTube or any other platforms and can only be accessed as part of this tour. Interesting model, which many will be looking at closely. More details from their agent, Active.
Great to see, in among the turmoil of the times, that Greentrax is still keeping up a release schedule, with the latest coming from TMF member, Fraser Bruce (official release date, 1 November). With the Scottish International Storytelling Festival just getting under way, it's good to be reminded of the importance of songs that tell a story.
Mairi Campbell will be holding her drop-in session for teaching musicians on Monday 19th at 2pm.
The TMF conference/workshop 'What If...post-Covid scenarios for the trad community' will feature presentations and discussions led by Jenn Butterworth, Steve Byrne, Malcolm Reavell, Donald Smith, and Jim Sutherland, exploring diversity, basic income, equitable streaming, a national archive and blended performance. The date is Saturday November 14. As well as exploring the issues, the plan is to come away with action points and markers for the future.
I was quoted in the Herald and the Scotsman this week, if only to state the glaringly obvious...
The clocks change next weekend, marked by Allan Taylor (the North East one) with this bothy ballad.
Congratulations to Margaret Robertson, Isobel Mieras, and Ian Russell, all recognised for their work for traditional music and culture in the latest Honours list.
All the best
